O-Kraom’s Piped Water Tower

O-Kraom Piped Water Tower

As we reflect on the progress made in 2024, we are happy to share an update on the O-Kraom Piped Water Tower project in O-Kraom village. This initiative marks a significant step forward in our mission to provide reliable, clean water to local communities.

Laying the Groundwork

In the first half of 2024, we focused on setting a solid foundation for the O-Kraom water system. A dedicated water usage group and committee were established within the community to ensure sustainable management and maintenance of the system. This grassroots involvement is crucial in fostering local ownership and long-term success.

Learning and Planning with Expertise

We organized several sessions with experts, drawing from successful implementations like TGF’s Trapeang Veng project. These meetings provided invaluable insights into optimizing the design, construction, and operation of the planned tower system for O-Kraom. With thorough strategic planning, all activities and budget allocations were finalized, setting the stage for a seamless construction process.

Construction and Implementation

We are excited to have commenced construction of TGF’s second piped water tower in the second half of the year. Located next to a community pond expanded in 2023, the new tower benefits from enhanced water storage capacity. The system was completed by December 2024, undergoing successful tests to ensure functionality.

Equipped with solar pumps and advanced flocculation and filtration systems, this tower promises high-quality, clean water delivery. The first household connections are scheduled for January/February 2025, with around 80 households expressing initial interest.

Strengthening Community and Capacity

The newly formed water usage group has been active in promoting the system in surrounding villages. Training sessions are planned to instruct on system maintenance, household connections, and fee collection, paving the way for sustainable operation with TGF’s support. The tower draws water from the nearby pond, which feeds from the Makkak reservoir to ensure a steady supply.

Expanding Reach

Our goal is to eventually connect 300-500 households across villages like O-Trach, O-Leur, and O-Kraom, transforming water access and encouraging new habits in water usage.
