In the first half of 2025, our piped water system projects in Trapeang Veng and O-Kraom (O-Samaki) have reached several key milestones, significantly enhancing access to clean and filtered water. These initiatives are driven by community collaboration, ownership, and sustainable practices, advancing our mission to improve water availability for rural households.
Our community-owned piped water tower at O-Samaki, completed last December, stands as an example of collective ownership. This project has empowered local residents through training in advanced water quality and treatment systems, including solar, PAC, and filtration methods. This year, we mapped the village and extended 3,500 meters of piping, successfully connecting 110 households year to date, with the ambition of reaching 200 by year-end. Technical training for the local water usage committee on the PAC system further supports sustainable management. Installation fees have been collected by the community supporting the maintenance and upgrades of the system, with ongoing monthly revenue from water usage. The passionate community engagement around the O-Samaki System has proven vital in overcoming challenges and ensuring the tower’s operational success.
Meanwhile, Trapeang Veng has expanded its pipe network by approximately 1,000 meters, connecting 10 new households and reconnecting the main pipe linked to the renovated bridge. The strategic mapping of villages has identified optimal locations for these connections and future expansions, facilitating efficient implementation.
Both systems are powered by solar pumps, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing operational costs. Upgrades to flocculation and bio-sand filtration systems have resulted in improved water flow rates and maintained high water quality; annual water testing affirms their effectiveness.
The TGF Water, Sanitation, and Health (WASH) Program continues to enhance rural communities’ well-being by improving access to clean water and promoting healthy living standards. The collaboration and dedication observed within these projects underscore the community’s role in driving sustainable development, making them true success stories in resource management and community engagement.
