Harvesting Success with TGF’s Rice Pilot Project

We’re excited to share the latest updates from TGF’s Rice Pilot Project in partnership with the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery (PDAFF). Launched as part of our Income Generation Project, this initiative is transforming agricultural practices and enriching farmer livelihoods through innovative training and the introduction of the Phka Romdul rice variety.

Project Achievements:

In the first year of implementation, the Rice Pilot Project has recorded remarkable results:

  • Yield Boost: A 19% increase in average rice yield, from 2,552 kg/ha to 3,038 kg/ha.
  • Seed Efficiency: Seed usage reduced by 44%, from 160 kg/ha to 90 kg/ha.
  • Market Gains: A 16% rise in market price, from 1,274 Riels/kg to 1,479 Riels/kg.

These advancements have culminated in a collective $ 1,857 increase in income across 5.6 hectares, with an average boost of 332 per hectare or $ 232 per farmer.

Empowering Farmers Through Training

Our comprehensive training program equipped farmers with essential skills and knowledge for improved rice cultivation, focusing on:

  • Principles and benefits of the System of Rice Intensification (SRI)
  • Sustainable weed and nutrient management
  • Harvesting and post-harvest techniques for maximum yields
  • Creation of natural liquid fertilizers for eco-friendly farming

Expanding Impact within the Community

Beyond immediate financial benefits, our pilot project is fostering a culture of sustainable agriculture within the community. Second-generation Phka Romdul seeds are being distributed to other AC members and local farmers, extending the reach and impact of the project.

Thank you to our partners for helping us create a different way of rice growing and supporting a more sustainable future for our farmers and communities.
