Siem Reap has achieved a remarkable milestone in public health, officially declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) on September 26th, 2024! This incredible achievement signifies a major step towards improved sanitation and a healthier future for all Cambodians, particularly within the Siem Reap province.
Temple Garden Foundation (TGF) is immensely proud to have played a key role in this transformative journey. Since 2008, TGF has focused its Water and Sanitation program on the Chi Kraeng district, working tirelessly to enhance sanitation infrastructure and promote hygienic practices within the community.
Over the past decade, TGF has constructed over 7,000 latrines in the Chi Kraeng district, a significant contribution to Siem Reap achieving ODF status. This success is a testament to the collaborative efforts of numerous stakeholders, including the dedicated community members, local government authorities, the Department of Rural Development, Provincial Administration, and various organizations working within Siem Reap. Together, we have demonstrated the power of collective action in driving positive change.
Achieving ODF status isn’t just about infrastructure; it represents a significant improvement in public health, dignity, and overall well-being for families in the region. It reduces the spread of diseases, protects water sources, and fosters a healthier environment for everyone.
TGF remains committed to empowering communities and creating sustainable livelihoods through our ongoing programs. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the individuals, partners, and supporters who have contributed to this incredible achievement. Join us as we continue to work towards a brighter and healthier future for Cambodia.
