2023: A Year of Empowerment and Sustainable Development in Chi Kraeng

TGF is proud to spotlight the transformative progress made over the past year in Chi Kraeng, where our targeted efforts have uplifted communities, shaped futures, and fostered a sustainable environment. Our comprehensive approach spanned 53 villages across six communes, directly benefiting approximately 9,822 households or 44,852 individuals.

Here’s how we’ve made a difference:

Early Childhood Education: Building the Foundation

Our focus on childhood education led to the successful enhancement of literacy and learning environments in 23 villages:

  • Renovation and equipment of two primary school libraries with over 1,000 books, digital resources, and child-friendly furniture in collaboration with Kampuchea Action to Promote Education (KAPE), LET’S READ, and The Asia Foundation.
  • Comprehensive educator training, increased parental engagement, and supplementary education classes significantly cut down dropout rates, impacting over 350 children.
  • The inception of our scholarship program showed promising results, with plans for expansion to support over 20 students annually.

Water, Sanitation, and Health: Ensuring Well-being

In 14 villages, we’ve made strides toward improving water access and community health:

  • Launched a second piped water project by renovating a community pond and laying plans for a water tower and filtration system to serve over 1,300 villagers.
  • Implemented family home garden projects to combat malnutrition.
  • Maintained essential WashInSchool facilities.
  • Drilled ten new wells.
  • Upgraded the existing piped water systems, benefiting numerous households and neighboring villages.

Income Generation: Empowering Sustainable Practices

Spanning 42 villages, our income generation projects have fostered economic stability and growth:

  • Initiated six Integrated Farmer Field Schools, training over 93 participants in sustainable agricultural practices like chicken and vegetable production and fish farming.
  • Supported 40 savings groups, facilitating over $600,000 in annual loans.
  • Supported 4 new and monitored 28 existing entrepreneurial ventures.
  • Supported our Agricultural Cooperative of 100 smallholder farmers and their businesses.
  • Installed 10 biogas units for sustainable energy solutions.

Transformative Impact: A Holistic Approach

Those are part of the highlights of our work in 2023. Our work has not only addressed immediate needs but also laid the groundwork for long-term sustainability and self-reliance across the communities we serve in Chi Kraeng. From elevating educational standards and ensuring access to clean water and nutritious food to empowering local farmers and entrepreneurs with the skills and resources to thrive, TGF is committed to fostering sustainable communities.

Our achievements are a testament to the strength of our partnerships, the dedication of our team, and the resilience of the communities we work with. As we move forward, we continue to be inspired by our collective impact and the potential for even more transformations in the years to come.
